Debut album by Necromantia. Utilizing an 8-string bass in place of a rhythm guitar (guitar is used only for some leads), they took quite an interesting approach to creating their sound. There are lengthy interludes of piano and spoken word passages in between most songs, which do not at all get boring. It is a very interesting and original record, with many underdeveloped, yet promising ideas, showing what is going to follow from a cult black metal band.

This is a multi-layered, mid-paced black metal record that incorporates acoustic passages and clean chants with a beautiful, cold atmosphere.
