7th album by Arckanum. Lyrically it deals with the Nordic god Hel, the daughter of the trickster Loki and giantess Angrboða. The riffs are all memorable and each song does contain a couple of surprises in the form of an additional violin at times and variations in tempo, that sets it apart from the others. While the music is still unmistakably quite raw, the production on this record is very clear and that is definitely a rewarding factor. It definately enters in the 2011 top list for black metal.

2nd album by Bolt Thrower. This was the band's last true grind release before they strayed toward the death metal stylings of their subsequent albums. While other bands were thrashing away noisily trying to break the speed of sound, they were truly exploring the sonic possibilities of creating massive walls of sound, rather than being noisy. There was less of the punk influence in this album compared to their debut, it contained more of the heavy grindcore influenced riffs and solos.

Debut album by Death. Chuck Schuldiner plays bass, wrote all the songs on the album and provides vocals in addition to guitar for the album. This is also the only Death album to feature drummer Chris Reifert. Musically, this album is still heavily influenced by brutal thrash metal of that period, but the violence here is brought to another level, a higher one.
