Postmortem - The Age Of Massmurder

Genre: Death'n'roll/Thrash
Country: Germany
Year: 1997

1. Intro
2. Albert "Cannibal" Fish
3. To Henry Lee Lucas (From Ottis)
4. Co-Ed-Killer
5. The Manson-Cult
6. Der Totmacher
7. Green River
8. Your Innocence
9. The Age Of Massmurder
10. Rosa Riese
11. The Son Of Sam
12. Are We Not Men?
13. 25
14. Cromwell Street

2nd album by Postmortem. The band is displaying a primitive form of death'n'roll with some thrash elements. The lyrics are humorous and about serial killers. Groovy in times, brutal and not much technical , it is simply a solid and entertaining release.

Demon - The Unexpected Guest

Genre: NWOBHM/Hard Rock
Country: England
Year: 1982

1. Intro: An Observation
2. Don’t Break The Circle
3. The Spell
4. Total Possession
5. Sign Of A Madman
6. Victim Of Fortune
7. Have We Been Here Before?
8. Strange Institution
9. The Grand Illusion
10. Beyond The Gates
11. Deliver Us From Evil

2nd album by Demon. Even though Demon is a band of NWOBHM, their music has not narrow musical frontiers and is not pressed by any rules of the genre. There are times where they play melodic heavy metal, with deep sound and there are times when they play simple, clear rock'n'roll. All the songs have an occult and mystical atmosphere.

Genre: Grindcore/Death
Country: England

1. Feeding On The Opiate
2. Castrate The Wreckage

12. Horns Of Venus
13. High Tide In A Sea Of Blood
14. Cascade Leviathan
15. Fake Somebody / Real Nobody
16. The Sixth Extinction

2nd album by Lock Up. Tomas Lindberg replaced Peter Tagtgren and the whole lineup seems more tight than their debut. A killer homage to old school grindcore/death. The production is clean, but always with a foot in the past.

Black Breath - Razor To Oblivion 'Ep

Genre: Crust/Hardcore/Death
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 2008

1. Razor To Oblivion
2. Fatal Error
3. Beneath The Crust
4. Murder

The first try by Black Breath, really shocked the underground. Actually it is 15 minutes of totally facemelting and to all intents and purposes perfect black-crusted hardcore/heavy metal. It take a lot of different sounds and melt them into a brutal attack. The results is a solid kick in the head. There is no messing around here, just straight ahead, skull-crushing assault.

Gorefest - Erase

Genre: Death'n'Roll
Country: Holland
Year: 1994

1. Low
2. Erase
3. I Walk My Way
4. Fear
5. Seeds Of Hate
6. Peace Of Paper
7. Goddess In Black
8. To Hell And Back
9. Raven
10. Horrors 94

3rd album by Gorefest. It is the link between the first two eras of the band, the pure death metal one and the death'n'roll/hard rock one. This record still has brutality and agression but in a more slower form. It mainly consists of slow and mid-tempo songs and although there is an up-tempo part to be found now and then, Gorefest never really hit the gas.

Malevolent Creation - Retribution

Genre: Death
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 1992

1. Eve Of The Apocalypse
2. Systematic Execution
3. Slaughter Of Innocence
4. Coronation Of Our Domain
5. No Flesh Shall Be Spared
6. The Coldest Survive
7. Monster
8. Mindlock
9. Iced

2nd album by Malevolent Creation. The production is perfect, clean and crisp, and the music is much more mature than the debut, both in the songwriting and composition. The album features slow to mid paced songs to faster songs. Simply put this record is a brutal Floridian death metal classic.

Meshuggah - Contradictions Collapse

Genre: Techn.Thrash
Country: Sweden
Year: 1991

1. Paralyzing Ignorance
2. Erroneous Manipulation
3. Abnegating Cecity
4. Internal Evidence
5. Qualms Of Reality
6. We'll Never See The Day
7. Greed
8. Choirs Of Devastation

Debut album by Meshuggah. It is certainly heavily influenced by old Metallica, but still shows the unconventional time signatures, that the band would become known for on subsequent releases. The music is spastic, grinding and stomping, as compared to later works which are more robotic and groovy in comparison. The tecnical level is very high, the production is good, but not outstanding.

Dismember - Hate Campaign

Genre: Death
Country: Sweden
Year: 2000

1. Suicidal Revelations
2. Questionable Ethics
3. Beyond Good And Evil
4. Retaliate
5. Enslaved To Bitterness
6. Mutual Animosity
7. Patrol 17
8. Thanatology
9. Bleeding Over
10. In Death's Cold Embrace
11. Hate Campaign

5th album by Dismember. It is a solid death metal album, but ... The band just doesn't seem to have much energy or creativity on this album, as it's simply not memorable. The things that hurt the album the most are Karki's vocals and the lyrics, which both seem to have lost a ton of the misanthropic nature that they once possessed.

Scythe - Beware The Scythe

Genre: Thrash/Black/Death
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 2012

1. The Iron Witch
2. Mastermind
3. Beware The Scythe
4. Tyrannical Stranglehold
5. Tunguska Death Ray
6. Opus Dei Of The Dead
7. Talons Of Steel
8. Eye Of The Crow
9. Planet Of The Humans

Debut album by Scythe, a project formed by Rick Scythe (ex-Usurper, ex-The Dead Youth). Rick is heavily influenced by Celtic Frost and that sound is here very much so. This release brings on some of the best parts of thrash, death, black, doom and even hard rock. In addition, the vocals vary from high-pitched screams to low end growls to even a dark clean vocal, which brings a nice dynamic of varying sounds.

Fukpig
1. The Prisoner
2. Docile Subjects

Kroh:
3. Lucidius
4. Retribution

Nice 'Ep by Fukpig and Kroh. Fukpig is offering us 2 new songs of high quality, blending more industrial elements on them. Kroh is the side project of Paul Kenney (Fukpig, ex-Mistress). He is experimenting, with the help of Francis Anthony behind the mic, in more doomy and industrial fields with 2 catchy but dark songs.

Rumpelstiltskin Grinder - Ghostmaker

Genre: Thrash
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 2012

1. Those Who Are Unseen
2. Ghostmaker
3. Nightworms
4. Fucking Wild
5. Dripping With Venom
6. Cold Haunting Death
7. A Lurking Thief
8. You’ve Been Had
9. Iron Jaw
10. Get Out Of My Grave/Gigantic Graveyard
11. Run Through The Bastards
12. Desert Goblins

The 3rd album by Rumpelstiltskin Grinder is a pure thrash/shred fest filled with goblins, gore, and death. The dual guitarwork of Ryan Moll and Matt Moore are thick and tight, the rhythm section follows suit and Moore's vocals are of the throat-throttling death metal variety. These guys have a sense of humor about things, which is always refreshing.

5. Lex Talionis
6. Devolutionary Storms
7. Tortured In Tartaros
8. Further Beyond
9. Acid Visions
10. Psyanide
11. Alcoholy Terror

Debut album by Nekromantheon. Extremely fast riffs that have a lot of intensity and offer plenty of twists and turns.  The band is really good at moving between mid-tempo and fast paced arrangements without losing any energy in the process.

Abigor - Nachthymnen (From The Twilight Kingdom)

Genre: Black
Country: Austria
Year: 1995

1. Unleashed Axe-Age
2. Scars In The Landscape Of God
3. Reborn Through The Gates Of Three Moons
4. Dornen
5. As Astral Images Darken Reality
6. The Dark Kiss
7. I Face The Eternal Winter
8. Revealed Secrets Of The Whispering Moon
9. A Frozen Soul In A Wintershadow

2nd album by Abigor. It is better produced and puts for emphasis on keyboards, compared to their debut. The tremolo picked guitars are some of the best on any black metal album ever. There is a definite feeling of space and atmosphere, provided mostly by the use of female vocals, slower sections of non-tremolo melody and non-modern synth sounds such as strings, flutes and bells.

4. Controlled Bleeding
5. Angelmeat (Part II)
6. 'Til Death Do Us Join
7. Sanctum
8. Skinless
9. Hidden Under Scars

2nd album by Seance, that continue offering their own brand of death metal, away from the Entombed or Dismember standards. The bass is so forward in the mix, you almost can't make out the guitars at times. Jensen and Kampner really perform well together on this album and provide some catchy rhythms and leads.

Toxic Holocaust & Municipal Waste - Toxic Waste split 'Ep

Genre: Thrash/Crossover
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 2012

 Municipal Waste
1.  Trapped In The Sites
2.  Mourning Sex

Toxic Holocaust
3.  We Bring Em Hell
4.  Altar-ed States

A nice split 'Ep by two of the most well-known bands of the the thrash/crossover revival genre, that are offering us 2 new songs each. As in the best crossover tradition, the songs are short and to the point. Both bands are also on different sides of the thrash spectrum. Municipal Waste's songs are much more interesting than their last album and Toxic Holocaust is still flirting with death metal.

11. Mono Grind
12. Ignorance
13. Humanity
14. 95
15. Ode To Nash

Debut album by The Berzerker. The band existed as Luke Kenny's project and through its releases he worked with different lineups. Based on death/grind with industrial/noise background and insane drum programming, this release shocked the underground movement.

Saxon - Saxon

Genre: NWOBHM
Country: England
Year: 1979

1. Rainbow Theme
2. Frozen Rainbow
3. Big Teaser
4. Judgement Day
5. Stallions Of The Highway
6. Backs To The Wall
7. Still Fit To Boogie
8. Militia Guard

Debut album by Saxon. It has mostly simple, catchy heavy metal tracks with simple and rhythmic power chords riffing which are easy for listening and also pretty enjoyable. Not even clocking over 30 minutes, this is a short and valuable album which marks the first breaths of this genre. The production quality is poor and Saxon would certainly go on to do much bigger and better things.

The Haunted - One Kill Wonder

Genre: Thrash/Mel.Death
Country: Sweden
Year: 2003

2. Godpuppet
3. Shadow Land
4. Everlasting
5. D.O.A.
6. Demon Eyes
7. Urban Predator
8. Downward Spiral
9. Shithead
10. Bloodletting
11. One Kill Wonder

3rd album by The Haunted. They just continued what they've created with their 2 past releases, but this time with less passion and a lot less memorable than their previous works. Guitar riffs heavy as fuck, solid solos and Aro does a competent job on vocals.

Slayer - South Of Heaven

Genre: Thrash
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 1988

1. South Of Heaven

4. Behind The Crooked Cross
5. Mandatory Suicide
6. Ghosts Of War
7. Read Between The Lies
8. Cleanse The Soul
9. Dissident Aggressor
10. Spill The Blood

4th album by Slayer. The band intentionally slowed down a bit, which led to several mid-tempo songs on this album. Araya is actually singing instead of yelling. They managed to make the guitars sound so clear without sacrificing speed or attitude and that is one of the things that makes this album stand out from others.

4. Father Of Time
5. Decisions
6. Liar
7. Big Love
8. Ride The Wind
9. Fool To Play The Hard Way
10. One Helluva Night

Debut album by Demon. One of the best components of Demon is vocalist Dave Hill, who is unique for being one of the few heavy metal singers to sing in a clean, relatively deep voice. Their NWOBHM flirts a lot with hard rock elements, that in later releases will be fiewer.

6. Over The Rainbow
7. White Masque
8. Rolling Wheels
9. Bloody Red Rose
10. Straight To Hell
11. Heads Or Tails

6th album by Running Wild. This time, Rock 'n' Rolf decided to speed things up without sacrificing the melody of the two previous albums. The classic heavy metal vibe is still very much there, but packed in there we have tons of speed metal riffs and leads and there are also some definite power metal influences found on here.

8. Bringer Of Torture
9. Fatal Energy

4th album by Kreator. The tracks feature some of the best riffs Kreator ever recorded and in combination with other general improvements in compositions, production and even lyrics, the results are nothing short of stunning. The album is loaded with all the characteristic attributes of the genre, from deadly riffs to solid drumming. The production is superior to their earlier attempts, being more clear and more even in the mix.

7. Midway Through Infinity
8. Lethe
9. The Emptiness From Which I Fed
10. Mine Is The Grandeur...
11. ... Of Melancholy Burning

2nd album by Dark Tranquillity. It is probably the album that brought the band into the spotlight. Mikael Stanne takes the mic on this one while Anders Friden went on to join In Flames. Intricate song structures, growls and raspy vocals, deep and poetic lyrics, double guitar shredding, were the band's ingredients of one of their best albums ever.

12. Black Light
13. Out Of Pace
14. Let The Mayhem Begin
15. Bedragen
16. The Anchor
17. Tingens Forbanneise

2nd album by Gadget. Their approach is a straightforward, high-speed grindcore assault with a dedication to memorable hooks and the ability to create a cohesive listening experience. The band has a sense for odd bits of melody and crushing slowness that set them apart from most of the other speedfreaks.

2nd album by Mekong Delta, named after a H.P. Lovecraft short story, following the conventions of its precedessor was also something of a concept album. Despite the band's more complex ambitions starting to show up, for the most part the album still caters to the same thrashing audience who were attracted by the sound of the band's first release.
