9th full length album by Suicidal Tendencies, 13 years after their last one! It’s based on firm grooves, catchy melodic vocal hooks and an insanely over-the-top constant lead guitar jam. Tim Williams behind the bass is really stellar, Mike Muir delivers different kinds of vocals, while their sound moves from funk to thrash to hardcore.

The music is gloomy keyboard driven and progressive and is their darker one, that has nothing to do with their ''happy'' power metal style they chose to follow later.

The group risked making a long album, clocking around 75mins and that turned to be a successful 'experiment'! 11 songs that spin you from death to thrash to progressive to black. Atmospheric, melodic, aggressive, brutal, everything!! Perhaps THE release of 2013 for me! Give it a listen and you'll not regret!

Great split ''12 by Per Capita and Freedom Is A Lie. Per Capita is delivering their aggressive and crusty grindcore very good, like they did with their debut. 5th album by Mercyful Fate. Shermann and Denner once again prove themselves to be perhaps one of the best guitar duo. Sharlee d'Angelo plays a very solid bass and Bjarne Holm, who has his debut here as new Mercyful Fate drummer does a great job. After the melodic 'Time' the group here becomes more raw and aggressive.

5. Hymne
6. Bukkeferd
7. Naglfar/Ragnarok

Debut album by Kampfar. The riffs that are produced are original and even catchy, while maintaining the raw, low-budget production that most black metal fans seem to desire. A solid album that actually consists of 5 tracks (+intro, +outro), that may be long, but they are arranged quite well.

2nd album by Saxon. The overall quality is a far step ahead from their 1979 self titled debut. It is the first chart topping album for Saxon.  Mid-tempo songs with crunchy riffs, faster pieces with repetitive high standards, a high pitched vocalist, lead guitar duels in all songs and a big variety in the lyrics. A classic album.

8. The Last Caress Of Light Before The Dark

Exciting debut album by Darkest Era. A near-flawless debut offering with 8 tracks of dark, stormy, epic celtic metal. A record which mixes the melancholy and atmosphere of irish Folk with the epic might of heavy metal. Think of a more folky and less refined Primordial and you’ll have an idea what to expect. The musicianship is almost perfect with a suitable production.

2nd album by Essence. With their bassist/vocalist Nefer leave, they sound more weaker than their impressive debut. With long songs (4-7 mins) they flirt with dullness, nevertheless there are some good ideas and strong tracks in here. I was a lil bit disappointed concerning that their debut was much more promising.

Year: 2013

1. Swing The Scimitar

4. Aphelion
5. Onyx & Obsidian

3rd album by Black Pyramid. A year after their brilliant 'II', with a lineup change (Darryl Shepard instead of Andy Beresky), their over-productivity is marked by 5 solid songs of doom/stoner. It surely can't reach last year's gem (perhaps after some more listenings it will), but their work is really standout. Great sound, less catchier melodies and near perfect musicianship.

Debut album by Dio, a group formed by Ronnie James Dio and Vinny Appice, after leaving Black Sabbath. A heavy metal classic full of standout tracks focused on great guitarwork and perfect and passionate vocal delivery by Dio.

Ash Borer - Cold Of Ages

Genre: Black
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 2012

1. Descented Lamentations
2. Phantoms
3. Convict All Flesh
4. Removed Forms

2nd album by Ash Borer. Over tracks that range between 11 and 18 minutes, the band presents the world as a delicate yet destructive force. Depressive black metal, often melodic or often chaotic. The ambient build-ups to the instrumental sections are used tastefully and effectively.

2nd album by Cloud Rat. It is a 13 track, near half-an-hour, face shredder. Changes in style occur often across these 13 tracks, but always in an organic manner. A mix of grindcore, sludge, hardcore, D-Beat. The lyrics and vocal delivery that frontwoman, Madison, unleash are just pure heaviness.

8. Karhunkaatolaulu
9. Misty Fields
10. Vesilahden Veräjillä
11. Nordic Feast

4th album by Korpiklaani. The successful formula of their previous albums is here too, but this time the group sounds more serious and less fun. Nevertheless, the songs are a great mix of folk/polka with heavy/thrash, with drunken lyrics and nice production.

Year: 1995

1. No Salvation
2. Blood Brothers
3. Infernal Desire

12. Tasteful Agony

4th album by Malevolent Creation. It is the first album without drummer Alex Marquez (mighty Dave Culross behind the kit) and original vocalist Brett Hoffmann, whose vocal duties were taken over by bassist Jason Blachowicz. It has a cleaner sound, more mature perhaps, as compared to the previous three albums, but maintains a quality of grittiness.

Blood Tsunami - For Faen!

Genre: Thrash
Country: Norway
Year: 2013

1. Butcher Of Rostov
2. Dogfed
3. The Rape Of Nanking
4. The Dungeon Of The Rats
5. Metal Fang
6. The Brazen Bull
7. Grave Desecrator
8. Unholy Nights
9. B.T.K.
10. Krokodil

3rd album by Blood Tsunami. Short, brutal, raw, simple and true thrash metal tracks. This album is less melodic compared to former releases. The riffage clearly owes a lot to the classics and has a nice old school feel about it. There’s a lot of early Sodom and Destruction to be heard here, with harsh vocals and thrashing attitude throughout.

Finntroll - Blodsvept

6. Skövlarens Död
7. Skogsdotter
8. Häxbrygd
9. Två Ormar
10. Fanskapsfylld
11. Midvinterdraken

6th album by Finntroll. It's different from the sound we are used to, but they managed to stay true to themselves. The growling vocals may be pure death/black metal, but that is where the connection with the genre ends. The record is characterized by their usual focus towards stomping rhythms and folk melodies. There's a greater reliance on keyboards and synths than previously.

7. Harlot Rises
8. Blood Red And True

5th album by Leviathan. Wrest (the only member of the band), before this release was accused for violence and rape against his ex-girlfriend, using his tattoo tools. True or not, this release is Wrest's answer to all of the accusations. Aggressive black metal, post-punk references, ambient and noise sounds and depressive atmosphere.

Manowar - Hail To England

Genre: Epic/Heavy

1. Blood Of My Enemies
2. Each Dawn I Die
3. Kill With Power

7. Bridge Of Death

3rd album by Manowar. The music backs up their themes (battles, kings, dragons, etc.), making this album strong from start to finish. Production-wise it is good by today's standards, but considering they did this in 1984 and the fact that it was recorded in six days, it is amazing.
