In Flames - Lunar Strain

Genre: Death
Country: Sweden
Year: 1994

1. Behind Space
2. Lunar Strain

6. Everlost (Part II)
7. Hargalaten
8. In Flames
9. Upon An Oaken Throne
10. Clad In Shadows

Debut album by In Flames. Overall it is a great album, although it is admittedly inconsistent. They play melodic Iron Maiden-esque metal with growled vocals and some folk influence here and there. On vocals we've got Mikael Stanne of Dark Tranquillity and a guitar duo of Jesper Stromblad and Glenn Ljungstrom. Jesper also writes all of the music on this release.

9. The Grave Robber's Work
10. The Raven
11. Great Burning Nullifier
12. Blood In The Ink

5th album by The Black Dahlia Murder. There’s a step up in melodicism and songwriting, without losing any of the brute force that they have always been known for. Vocalist Trevor Strnad sounds killer leading the group through an onslaught. Lesser metalcore/deathcore elements are present this time.

Year: 1986

1. Live, Suffer, Die
2. Sin
3. Cold Steel

10. Nuclear War
11. My America
12. Vengeance
13. Brain Death

Nuclear Assault's debut album is a nice collection of some of the wildest thrash metal with both serious and funny overtones. These tracks sport a thin and somewhat hardcore-ish but very clear production, resulting in a distinctive sound where one of the most essential elements is the howling vocals by John Connelly. For the most part the songs are compact energetic bursts like never before and there is hardly a single boring moment to be found here.

9. Banishing Illusion
10. Consequence Of Solution
11. Evolution Of Extinction

5th full length album by Origin. They are here to make things uneasy for you with their peculiar mix of technicality and brutality. Origin is surgically precise but at the same time unpredictable, showing awesome musicianship. Some steps forward have been taken in the production department as well, comparing with their previous releases.

Motorhead - Motorhead

Genre: Heavy/Punk/Rock'n'Roll
Country: England
Year: 1977

1. Motorhead
2. Vibrator
3. Lost Johnny
4. Iron Horse/Born To Lose
5. White Line Fever
6. Keep Us On the Road
7. The Watcher
8. The Train Kept A-Rollin' (Tiny Bradshaw cover)

Debut album by Motorhead. What you get with this album is a strange crossover of styles of the era, quite simply a mixture of classic punk and early 70's metal/biker rock. Despite the difference in the sound of this album compared to the Motörhead we all know, at least a few of these tracks really show where the band was headed.

Leper - End Progress

Genre: Crust/Black/Hardcore/Ska
Country:Canada
Year: 2009

1. War Of 2010
2. Wild And Free
3. Sedition Not Sedation

2nd album by Leper. They play a very blackened form of crust who incorporate ska hooks. The transitioning from ska to black metal riffing seems totally natural and gives this album a very unique feel, reminding Choking Victims or Left Over Crack Their lyrics tend to focus on anarchist views targeting such things as consumerism, capitalism, racism and animal liberation.

3rd album by Book Of Black Earth. The keyboard element found on 2008’s release, Horoskopus, is not present, giving the songs a crustier, more guitar-oriented sound. So, we have a perfect mix of blackened death metal with a more crustier attitude/sound, nice black oriented riffs with interesting melodies.

Debut album by Korpiklaani. Ridiculously catchy tunes, guitar solos and alcohol can be found throughout the album. Korpiklaani preferred to focus more on a happy, partying sound rather than an epic one, using real live folk instruments, namely the violin, the whistle, the accordion and the jouhikko. This is the Korpiklaani album featuring the highest number of instrumentals.

Besides the regular instruments you normally find in metal, here we also get mandolin, tin whistle, low whistle, uilleann pipes, bodhrán, Irish flute, gaita, hurdy-gurdy and violin. All of these celtic instruments are well combined with death metal influences. There is a lot of atmosphere here as well, so this album displays a palette of moods.

5th album by Karma To Burn. This band know how to construct strong yet simples songs that plow along. Their sound has a 70's foundation with a definite fascination for Sabbath.
