4th album by Dark Angel. It is their most mature album, demonstrating amazing musicianship from all the members. It is slower than earlier releases, but without being slow at all! Ron Rinehart, this time is singing and not trying to catch up the speed of the rest. Gene Hoglan wrote all the lyrics, while their ad '9 songs, 67 minutes, 246 riffs!' means this is a very 'difficult' thrash album!

3rd album by Cerebral Fix. The main difference with the earlier releases, is that his album is flirting a lot with death metal. While crossover/thrash is the base of their music, there are a lot of moments (especially mid-tempo parts) that are definitely proto-death metal. In the The Damned cover song lead vocals by Blaze Bayley!

2nd album by Gamma Ray. It seems as though the group was trying to carve their own niche and escape Helloween comparisons at this point. Lyrically they left the fantasy section and became more real life issues. Musically, you can find nice riffing, nice vocal delivery, but a weak production.

The artwork is taken from the 1894 painting 'The Treasures of Satan' by Belgian symbolist painter, writer and occultist Jean Delville and was also used in Hexenhaus's first album 'A Tribute to Insanity' (1988). A classic death metal album!

4th album by Helloween. Kai hansen left the band, pumpkins replaced by bubbles and no more drawings for cover art. Major changes that had as result the poor performance of the band generally. Kiske is doing his best to save the situation, but this is not enough. Some songs are really good, but generally the album suffers in songwritting.

2nd album by Rigor Mortis, this time with Doyle Bright replacing Bruce Corbitt behind the mic (while handling guitars too). It sees the band's punk influences bubbling to the surface, leading to a much looser, more fun feel. Mike Scaccia's guitar work is flawless as he alternates between speed-picked rhythm and tap solos.

3rd album by Carcass. It's the album where the band had gone from gore grind to melodic death metal before both genres even existed! Since this is the first album to feature Michael Amott, it can easily be heard that he has joined since his solos and riffing are more melodic. The album also feature the longest songs the band ever released, going all the way up to 7 minutes.

They managed to retain their raging thrash edge from their earlier approach, but thrown in major amounts of technicality and progressiveness. the band maintains a pretty consistent level of quality throughout the entire record.

4th album by Metal Church. Again, Kurdt Vanderhoof helped pen most of the songs even though he was not an active member of the band. The guitars sounds heavier and more crunchy than the previous album and the riffing attack never lets up.  Cool grooves, memorable choruses and no issue excluded.

4th album by Nuclear Assault and last one with their original lineup. It saw the band experiment with slower tempos and songwriting styles, which they hadn’t tried before for their last album together, which had mixed results and a mixed critical reaction at the time. The album doesn’t contain any comedy moments and doesn’t contain any brief extreme hardcore punk tracks, both of which had been at least part of the band’s appeal.

3rd album by Pestilence. Martin Van Drunen is departed, replaced on vocals by lead guitarist Patrick Mameli and the legendary Tony Choy (Cynic, Atheist) on bass. There are 16 tracks of which half are interludes of various kinds used to break up the main songs. The playing on here is not overly technical but tasteful and executed to perfection. Some riffs may be just pure aggression, but some other parts are truly emotional, very melodic and harmonic.

3rd album by Bolt Thrower, that puts them in the pure death metal fields. The music is quite fast and the riffs are crushing, heavy and tightly-played, while retaining atmosphere. Karl Willetts' vocals are just as destructive, than on the first two records. One of the more surprising improvements on this album was the solos.

Debut album by Meshuggah. It is certainly heavily influenced by old Metallica, but still shows the unconventional time signatures, that the band would become known for on subsequent releases. The music is spastic, grinding and stomping, as compared to later works which are more robotic and groovy in comparison. The tecnical level is very high, the production is good, but not outstanding.

6th album by Running Wild. This time, Rock 'n' Rolf decided to speed things up without sacrificing the melody of the two previous albums. The classic heavy metal vibe is still very much there, but packed in there we have tons of speed metal riffs and leads and there are also some definite power metal influences found on here.
