Unkind - Harhakuvat

Genre: Crust/Hardcore
Country: Finland

3. Laumasielut
4. Ylpeä Perhe
5. Johtajat Ja Uhrit
6. Läsnä
7. Tämä Päivä
8. Koulutettu Epäonnistumaan

5th album by Unkind. Amazing crusty hardcore in the vein of Tragedy and His Hero Is Gone. Great cold, dark atmosphere that may sounds a lil bit pessimistic, accompanied by nice musicianship, touching the black metal territories in moments and great production.

Powerwolf - Blood Of The Saints

Genre: Power
Country: Germany
Year: 2011

1. Agnus Dei (Intro)
2. Sanctified With Dynamite
3. We Drink Your Blood
4. Murder At Midnight
5. All We Need Is Blood
6. Dead Boys Don't Cry
7. Son Of A Wolf
8. Night Of The Werewolves
9. Phantom Of The Funeral
10. Die, Die, Crucified
11. Ira Sancti (When The Saints Are Going Wild)

4th album by Powerwolf. The riffing and leads are once again tight, they are solid throughout the entire album. The songs have a very rich feel to them, as well as guitars, bass and drums there are other instruments including an organ which really fills out the sound and adds a very gothic flavour to them. Great production and the lyrics all revolve around the same subjects: vampires, werewolves, the Church, Satan, funerals.

Ringworm - Scars

Genre: Hardcore/Thrash/Crossover
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 2011

1. Voluntary Human Extinction
2. To The Grave
3. Used Up, Spit Out
4. Scars
5. Unravel
6. Cleansing Of The Hell
7. Burning Bridges
8. Angelfuck
9. Empty
10. Hellbound

5th album by Ringworm. 10 tracks, 35 minutes of thrashy hardcore that Ringworm is known for. Fast and thriving riffs along with shouted vocals make the hardcore punk music sound like metal. From the first track, the listener is treated to high-quality, brutal and crushing musicianship and thought-provoking lyrics that are always, thankfully, conveyed through a rough and angry vocal style.

Dragonlord - Rapture

Genre: Symph. Black/Thrash
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 2001

1. Vals De La Muerte
2. Unholyvoid
3. Tradition And Fire
4. Born To Darkness
5. Judgement Failed
6. Wolfhunt
7. Spirits In The Mist
8. Rapture

Debut album by Dragonlord, a black metal side-project of Eric Peterson (Testament), Steve DiGiorgio (Death, Sadus, etc.), Steve Smyth (Nevermore, Vicious Rumors, etc.) and Jon Allen (Sadus, Testament, etc.). Imagine Cradle Of Filth with a more thrashy edge. The riffs are typical brilliant thrash riff from Peterson with the keyboards and the singing giving it that black metal feel (even a few blast beats).

Witheria - Vanishing Order

Genre: Thrash/Black/Death
Country: Finland
Year: 2011

1. A.T.D.B.T.S.
2. Obscene Desecrator
3. The Abyss Within
4. The Final Hour
5. The Nameless Beast
6. Perished In Torment
7. Bringer Of Chaos
8. Fire In Black
9. Timeless

3rd album by Witheria, a thrash band in theory, but with a lot of black metal influence and some death metal touches too, which gives them a very aggressive vocal sound. Razor sharp guitars and devastating blastbeats are fired mercilessly and make delightful wrought-up impression. The combination of old-school death metal with a touch of grindcore and accent on thrash that Witheria revealed on the previous works are again fully present and in general the album pounds its way through delightfully.

Bloodride - Crowned In Hell

Genre: Thrash
Country: Finland
Year: 2011

1. There Will Be Blood
2. March Of The Dead
3. Straight From Hell
4. Slave Of Evil
5. Cain
6. Demon’s Way
7. God
8. Promised
9. Thrown Into Darkness (Unholy War)

Debut album by Bloodride. It is not a revelation or anything of the sort, it’s just a good, honest album that throws some purebred old-school thrash straight at your face for just over 30 mins. The band is great musically and the songwriting is frenetic and done very well, but the ace in the deck here would have to be vocalist Jyka Leskinen who has a voice that is a cross between eighties thrash and old-school death metal.

Vermin - Millenium Ride

Genre: Death'n'Roll
Country: Sweden
Year: 1998

1. Hungerface
2. Circle Of time
3. Upright Infinity
4. Demonsoul
5. Bloodlust
6. Everlasting
7. Black
8. Deviltrip
9. Broken
10. Species

2nd album by Vermin, a band that started playing death metal and later moved into more death'n'roll levels, like Entombed and others. This record is nothing groundbreaking, but it can be entertaining for some listenings.

Darkthrone - Soulside Journey

Genre: Death
Country: Norway
Year: 1991

1. Cromlech
2. Sunrise Over Locus Mortis
3. Soulside Journey
4. Accumulation Of Generalization
5. Neptune Towers
6. Sempiternal Sepulchrality
7. Grave With A View
8. Iconoclasm Sweeps Cappadocia
9. Nor The Silent Whispers
10. The Watchtower
11. Eon

Debut album by Darkthrone. There’s no cold or harsh atmosphere to be found here and the musicianship is highly complexed and technical, which is the complete opposite of the way the later Darkthrone albums would sound.  The sound on this album sounds very Swedish, much similar to early Entombed, Grave, Unleashed and Dismember.

Suicidal Tendencies - Suicidal Tendencies

Genre: Crossover/Hardcore
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 1983

1. Suicide's An Alternative / You'll Be Sorry
2. Two Sided Politics
3. I Shot Reagan
4. Subliminal
5. Won't Fall In Love Today
6. Institutionalized
7. Memories Of Tomorrow
8. Possessed
9. I Saw Your Mommy...
10. Fascist Pig
11. I Want More
12. Suicidal Failure

Debut album by Suicidal Tendencies. The band is credited as one of the the fathers of crossover thrash. They'd later turn thrash, but on their first album, the sound is pretty much frenzied skate punk along the lines of peers Minor Threat and Black Flag. Mike Muir's vocals are much different on this album than they are on the albums that followed after, this is probably due to his young age.

Exodus - Pleasures Of The Flesh

Genre: Thrash
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 1987

1. Deranged
2. 'Til Death Do Us Part
3. Parasite
4. Brain Dead
5. Faster Than You'll Ever Live to Be
6. Pleasures of the Flesh
7. 30 Seconds
8. Seeds of Hate
9. Chemi-Kill
10. Choose Your Weapon

2nd album by Exodus, a worthy follow-up to one of the best thrash albums around, this time with Steve Souza replacing Paul Baloff in vocals. Steve Souza's shredding and shrill voice has got the right attitude for the music and the whole band seems to be having a fun time, with a playful side throwing in some humour to mix with the serious political attacks and general thrash concerns.

Immortal - Diabolical Fullmoon Mysticism

Genre: Black
Country: Norway
Year: 1992

1. Intro
2. The Call Of The Wintermoon
3. Unholy Forces Of Evil
4. Cryptic Winterstorms
5. Cold Winds Of Funeral Dust
6. Blacker Than Darkness
7. A Perfect Vision Of The Rising Northland

Debut album by Immortal. There is a strong Bathory influence here and the band draws heavily from Celtic Frost. Acoustic guitar passages are employed at various points to further elaborate upon an intricate mixture of styles. The production is raw and unpolished. Abbath's voice is rough and mixes well with the music.

Svartsot - Maledictus Eris

Genre: Folk/Death
Country: Denmark
Year: 2011

1. Staden...
2. Gud Giv Det Varer Ved!
3. Dødedansen
4. Farsoten Kom
5. Holdt Ned Af En Tjørn
6. Den Forgængelige Tro
7. Om Jeg Lever Kveg
8. Kunsten At Dø
9. Den Nidske Gud
10. Spigrene
11. ...Og Landet Ligger Så Øde Hen

3rd album by Svartsot. It doesn’t break any new ground, but the ground it holds it handles well. They continue a tale about the plague that harmed Europe in past. The lyrics and theme of this album is much darker than the previous recordings. The songs seem to be mostly mid-tempo melodic death metal with all harsh vocals and peppered with folk instrumentation, particularly whistles.
