It is the first chart topping album for Saxon.  Mid-tempo songs with crunchy riffs, faster pieces with repetitive high standards, a high pitched vocalist, lead guitar duels in all songs and a big variety in the lyrics. A classic album.

Debut album by Saxon. It has mostly simple, catchy heavy metal tracks with simple and rhythmic power chords riffing which are easy for listening and also pretty enjoyable. Not even clocking over 30 minutes, this is a short and valuable album which marks the first breaths of this genre. The production quality is poor and Saxon would certainly go on to do much bigger and better things.

The 19th album by Saxon, features Byford on lead vocals, Paul Quinn and Doug Scarratt on guitars, Nibs Carter on bass and Nigel Glockler on drums. They seem to have settled into a good compromise between the melody of much of their 80s output and the sheer heavy metal of the late 90s and early 00s. Call To Arms can stand proudly beside any Saxon album before it.
