Metallica - Kill 'Em All

Genre: Thrash
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 1983

1. Hit The Lights
2. The Four Horsemen
3. Motorbreath
4. Jump In The Fire
5. (Anesthesia) Pulling Teeth
6. Whiplash
7. Phantom Lord
8. No Remorse
9. Seek & Destroy
10. Metal Militia

Metallica's debut album is one of the first thrash metal albums and deserves an extra deal of respect. For such an old release, the sound is sharp and clear if somewhat raw especially in the vocal department. Compared to Metallica's later releases, it feels a bit simple now, but it shows that the band had all the talent from the very beginning.

Exodus - Bonded By Blood

Genre: Thrash
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 1985

1. Bonded By Blood
2. Exodus
3. And Then There Were None
4. A Lesson In Violence
5. Metal Command
6. Piranha
7. No Love
8. Deliver Us To Evil
9. Strike Of The Beast

Exodus' debut album was their commercial and critical pinnacle. Even though they've had a long and successful career, they never matched the success of thrash counterparts like Metallica, Megadeth and Anthrax. This album, though, is spectacular. It's a thrash classic with music played at breakneck speed with a barrage of killer riffs and solos.

Slayer - Show No Mercy

Genre: Thrash
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 1983

1. Evil Has No Boundaries
2. The Antichrist
3. Die By The Sword
4. Fight Till Death
5. Metal Storm / Face The Slayer
6. Black Magic
7. Tormentor
8. The Final Command
9. Crionics
10. Show No Mercy

The debut album by Slayer features 10 blazing songs glorifying war and hell. The sound here is very fast, evil version of the NWOBHM with heavy influence from bands such as Judas Priest and Venom. What differences this from the conventional heavy metal of the early 80s is the faster paced and more aggressive style with which Slayer play.

Satan's Host - By The Hands Of The Devil

Genre: Heavy/Speed/Black
Country: U.S.A.
Year: 2011

1. By The Hands Of The Devil
2. Shades Of The Unlight
3. Demontia
4. Before The Flame
5. Bleeding Hearts Of The Damned

8. Fallen Angel
9. Inferior Worlds
10. Norwegian Wood (The Beatles cover)

25 years after their debut, Satan’s Host have reunited with original singer Harry Conklin (Jag Panzer, Titan Force) for  their 7th release. A return to their early sound after the band spent the last decade playing generic Norwegian-style black metal. What we have here is a mix of classic heavy with speed and polished black metal with dark instrumentation and atmosphere. Conklin’s vocals and Evil’s guitar playing are top-notch and most of the songwriting really hits the mark, making this album one of my favorites for 2011 till now!!

Sodom - In The Sign Of Evil 'Ep

Genre: Black/Thrash
Country: Germany
Year: 1984

1. Outbreak Of Evil
2. Sepulchral Voice
3. Blasphemer
4. Witching Metal
5. Burst Command Til War

Sodom were quite possibly the dirtiest, rawest and blackest early black/thrash band back in '84. This EP is complete Venom worship, 3 piece outfit with shocking stage names: Angelripper, Witchhunter and Grave Violator. Practically every song on here is recognized as a classic and generally this Ep had great influence in the later evolution of black metal.

9. Sign Of Evil Existence / The Era Of Satan Rising (Rotting Christ cover / Thou Art Lord cover)
10. House Of War
11. Omega

3rd album by Algaion, 13 years after their last release. They're playing some tight, extreme black metal with an excellent melodic and slightly melancholic sensibility. Algaion does not bring chaos in at any point, but amongst the complex riffs, the guitars constantly weave brooding and depressing melodies.

Debut album by Iron Maiden. It is great quality NWOBHM with a sprinkling of 1977 era punk rock. It is also one of the best examples of the early NWOBHM movement from one of its key bands and is an enjoyable listen, despite its shortcomings. Paul Di'Anno in vocals, Dave Murray and Dennis Stratton in guitars, Steve Harris in bass and Clive Burr in drums.

Dreamtale - Epsilon

Genre: Power
Country: Finland
Year: 2011

5. Fly Away
6. Reasons Revealed
7. Strangers' Ode
8. Mortal Games
9. Lady Of A Thousand Lakes
10. March To Glory

5th album by Dreamtale. The band plays straight-up, uncomplicated power metal. Dreamtale sounds really familiar and traditional without getting cliché, with really catchy riffs and easy to sing-along lyrics, especially in the choruses. Erkki Seppanen, also sings in an Iron Maiden cover band called Made of Iron, so if you’re wondering if it’s Bruce Dickinson singing, you're wrong!
