The band continues in their crusade to merge a refined and epic black metal with some progressive overtones, displaying a stunning versatility with grim and fierce riffs contrasting nicely with epic and memorable prog melodies. What really gives “Urd” its distinctive flavour is the fact that ICS Vortex (he returns in band after 12 years), Vintersorg and Lars Nedland all share lead vocal duties. The results are simply mind-blowing.

Harsh black metal vocals, heavy guitars and semi-complex drumming make up a good bulk of the release.

The speed of the album rarely gets too ferocious, but this does not make the music any less convincing. Each member is a highlight, with Grawsio perhaps standing out the brightest, flawlessly handling both drum and vocal duties.
